We start at five from Gurna and climb the old workmen's path over the ridge — the same route the tomb builders walked for four hundred years — coming down into Deir el-Medina as the sun hits it. Five hours, moderate but exposed, and the view over the Valley of the Kings from the top is the one nobody photographs. Water and breakfast included, tickets are not.
